Houseboats are comfortable and most essentials are provided, so pack light. Here’s a practical checklist.
Clothing
- Light, breathable cotton clothes — daytime is warm and humid.
- One light layer for the cooler evening at anchor (more useful December–February).
- Comfortable sandals or slip-ons (you’ll be barefoot onboard a lot).
- Swimwear if your boat/plan allows a dip, and a hat and sunglasses for the deck.
Toiletries & health
- Sunscreen and mosquito repellent (the single most useful thing to bring).
- Any personal medicines, plus basics like an anti-nausea tablet if you’re sensitive to gentle motion.
- Toothbrush and personal toiletries (basic amenities are usually provided, but bring your own to be sure).
Electronics
- Phone charger and a power bank — boats have power, but a power bank covers the overnight anchor.
- Camera or binoculars, especially for the Pathiramanal bird route.
Documents & money
- Photo ID — required at check-in.
- Some cash for small extras (a shikara ride, market fish, tips) — card acceptance onboard can’t be guaranteed.
Nice to have
- A book or a card game for the quiet anchored evening.
- A refillable water bottle.
- Snacks for children, if you’re travelling with kids (see the family guide).
What you don’t need to bring
Meals, bedding and towels are provided on overnight packages, so leave those at home. Questions about a specific boat? WhatsApp us.
